How to Make Mixed Lentil & Okra Sambar at Home

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup toor dal
  • ¼ cup moong dal
  • 1 cup okra (bhindi), cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Hing Powder
  • ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Prayosha Meera Sambar Masala Powder
  • 8–10 curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Step by Step Guide

  1. Cook ¼ cup toor dal and ¼ cup moong dal together with ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Turmeric Powder until soft, then mash lightly.
  2. In a pan, shallow-fry the okra pieces in a little oil for 3–4 minutes until they lose their sticky texture, then set aside.
  3. In a pot, simmer the chopped onion and tomato with 1 tbsp tamarind pulp until soft. Add the mashed dal, fried okra, 2 tsp Prayosha Meera Sambar Masala Powder, and salt to taste. Simmer for 8 minutes.
  4. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a small pan, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Hing Powder, and curry leaves until they crackle.
  5. Pour the tempering over the sambar, mix gently to keep the okra intact, and serve hot with rice.
