How to Make Mixed Lentil & Okra Sambar at Home
Ingredients
- ¼ cup toor dal
- ¼ cup moong dal
- 1 cup okra (bhindi), cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Hing Powder
- ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Turmeric Powder
- 2 tsp Prayosha Meera Sambar Masala Powder
- 8–10 curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Step by Step Guide
- Cook ¼ cup toor dal and ¼ cup moong dal together with ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Turmeric Powder until soft, then mash lightly.
- In a pan, shallow-fry the okra pieces in a little oil for 3–4 minutes until they lose their sticky texture, then set aside.
- In a pot, simmer the chopped onion and tomato with 1 tbsp tamarind pulp until soft. Add the mashed dal, fried okra, 2 tsp Prayosha Meera Sambar Masala Powder, and salt to taste. Simmer for 8 minutes.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a small pan, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, ¼ tsp Prayosha Meera Hing Powder, and curry leaves until they crackle.
- Pour the tempering over the sambar, mix gently to keep the okra intact, and serve hot with rice.
